TARS is a player-level benchmarking system that promotes a fair and competitive ranking across the sports ecosystem. Each player receives a rating between 1 and 32, allowing for direct comparison among all participants.
TARS (TieSports Advanced Rating System) is an algorithm that provides an accurate measure of a player’s skill level. The lowest possible rating is 1, and the highest is 32.
For every match, the algorithm calculates a score for each player based on several factors: Win Expectation, Performance Weighting, Competition Type, Result Weighting, and Partner Influence (in doubles). All these variables are combined to determine an accurate rating. Only matches from the last 12 months are considered for the player’s ranking.
If a player or pair performs better than expected according to the algorithm, their score will increase, while the opponent’s score will decrease. This continuous adjustment determines the evolution of each player’s ranking.
Play Well – Good performance is key to improving your ranking. Never give up. You can increase your rating even if you lose, as long as you perform better than expected.
Play More – The more matches you play, the more accurate your ranking will become.
Play Different – Avoid always playing against the same opponents. The algorithm works best when you compete with a wide variety of players, both stronger and weaker than you.
TARS needs time to accurately assess your skill level. Be patient and continue registering matches and participating in tournaments within the platform. Over time, your rating will naturally become more precise and fair.
When Are Ratings Updated?
Ratings are updated three days after each match. Tournament matches are validated by officials, while private games are confirmed by opponents. You have 48 hours to submit your match results.
If I Defeat a Player with a Much Higher Rating, Will My Rating Increase More?
Yes. A lower win expectation combined with a large rating difference will result in a greater increase if you win.
If I Lose to a Much Stronger Player, Will My Rating Drop a Lot?
No. A low win expectation means losing was expected, so your rating will not decrease significantly. Your opponent’s rating will also increase only slightly.
If I Win Against a Stronger Player, Will My Rating Increase?
Yes. Beating a higher-rated opponent will significantly boost your rating. The defeated opponent’s rating will decrease more sharply.
If I Play with a Much Stronger Partner, Does It Affect My Rating?
Yes. If your partner’s higher rating contributed more to the victory, your rating increase will be smaller. This occurs only when there is a large difference between teammates’ ratings.
Does Winning 6–0 / 6–0 Have the Same Impact as Any Other Result?
No. A more dominant victory results in a higher score increase. Losing heavily in a match you were expected to win will cause a greater drop.
How Are Morale and Confidence Considered?
A player’s morale and confidence influence the outcome. Recent winning trends increase confidence, which positively affects performance.
Do Friendly Games and Official Tournaments Affect Ratings Equally?
No. Official tournaments have the highest weighting, followed by leagues and events by Certified Promoters. Regular club events are considered with lower weighting, and private games have the lowest.
What Happens if I Stop Playing?
Without activity, your rating remains for three months. Minor depreciation may occur due to algorithmic adjustments. Stay active to maintain accuracy.
Can I Register Friendly Matches? Do They Count Toward My Rating?
Yes, only matches at certified clubs count. Matches without a registered location do not. To register: book via app, confirm match in Admin Dashboard, confirm results with opponents, and ensure the club is certified.
Is the Rating Separated by Gender?
No. TARS is universal. Ratings may have limited comparability across genders if groups compete only among themselves.
What Happens if a Group of Players Always Competes Among Themselves?
Initially, ratings may not match the universal standard, but playing against diverse opponents helps align them. To evolve accurately, play against as many different opponents as possible.
